A day after taking his 7th pole position of the 2011 MotoGP season with a record breaking lap time around the Indianapolis Motor Speeway, Casey Stoner took his 7th win. The Repsol Honda was an absolute dominant force at Indy, as he took the race win by nearly 5 seconds ahead of his teammate, Dani Pedrosa. American Ben Spies took the final spot on the podium.
Pedrosa lead the way off the line, jumping from the second row up to the front, and was able to stay in that position for the first few laps. But on lap seven Casey Stoner found his way past and never looked back. Stoner would speed away from the rest of the pack, taking his first victory at Indy and extending his lead to 44 points over Jorge Lorenzo, who finished fourth for the day.
Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden would battle for fifth place, but the American eventually had to pull into the pits with tire trouble.
Alvaro Bautista took a lonely sixth place. The Rizla Suzuki rider couldn't keep pace with the top five, but was well ahead of 7th place rider Colin Edwards.
Randy De Puniet took his best finish of the season with an 8th place finish ahead of Hiroshi Aoyoma, while Valentino Rossi claimed the final spot in the top 10.
Rossi had a poor qualifying, but was able to make his way through the pack. Midway through, however, the Italian dropped back to last place with apparent tire troubles, before reworking his way to the front.
Cal Crutchlow took 11th ahead of Marco Simoncelli, who also suffered from tire trouble during the race. Simoncelli was as high as third during the Indy GP, but couldn't maintain the pace. Toni Elias took 13th ahead of Nicky Hayden, who was the last rider to finish.
