MotoGP: Indy By the Numbers

the_brickyardThis weekend the MotoGP returns to America for the 12th round of the 2011 season. But American fans will be treated to more than just the fast pace action of the MotoGP. The Moto2 series, 125cc series, and the Harley XR1200 series will also be racing around the brickyard.

Here are some stats and figures about the Indy GP.

  • 104 - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has seen 104 years of racing. The track was constructed in 1909.
  • 102 - The last time a Harley raced at Indy was in 1909 at the first motorized race in the Brickyard, 102 years ago.
  • 69 - Valentino Rossi took his 69th premier class GP victory at Indy in 2008, breaking Giacomo Agostino's 32-year-old record.
  • 37 - Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa are tied with 37 career GP wins. Casey Stoner could also join the 37 club this weekend as the Repsol Honda rider is just one win back with 36.
  • 22 - Valentino Rossi has scored points at all 22 races since his return from injury. Rossi hasn't, however, taken a victory in the last 14 races. His last win was in Malaysia in 2010.
  • 11 - Aprilia has scored 11 consecutive victories in the 125cc class.
  • 9 - Casey Stoner has finished on the podium for the last nine consecutive races. the only race this year that Stoner did not finish on the podium was in Spain when he earned a DNF after a crash with Rossi.
  • 3 - Indy is one of just three circuits that has never seen a Casey Stoner victory.
