Round six of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship kicks off this weekend at the Montmeló circuit near Barcelona. Casey Stoner heads to the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya as the leader in standings after a victory at Mugello.
Second place belongs to Jorge Lorenzo, the only rider with two wins under his belt so far in the season. The race at the Montmeló circuit takes place on Lorenzo’s home turf; he’ll definitely be striving to earn a third victory this weekend in front of a home-town crowd. Valentino Rossi trails Casey stoner by nine points coming in to this race.
The winner at Montmeló in 2008 and home favorite, Dani Pedrosa, damaged his right thigh in practice in Mugello and his participation in the 2009 race is questionable. Riders also making appearances at their home track are Toni Elías and Sete Gibernau. Both riders are recovering from recent operations and attempting to climb the standings latter.
