After the earthquake that rocked the Japan countryside and severly damaged a nuclear plant, the FIM was unsure if the Motegi round of the 2011 MotoGP season would take place. The FIM has just announced that testing at Motegi has completed and officials have found no reason to cancel the event. The Japan GP will take place as scheduled on October 2nd.
The Motegi round, which was originally scheduled for April, was pushed back until October due to radiation and other health concerns. The FIM and Dorna Sports scheduled the Motegi round for October 2nd, but promised that thorough testing would be done in the area to ensure the safety of all riders, teams, and fans.
The FIM and Dorna Sports have just received the final report from the ARPA, which says that there is no radiation risk at Motegi. According to a press release, the ARPA measured radiation levels in the air, water, food, and land.
The report concluded, "based on the estimate dose it can be said with no doubt that the radiation risk during the race event is negligible."
The MotoGP also took into account all of the information that is available from government reports and the World Health Organization, but they wanted to wait to make their final decision until an independent test was completed at the circuit.
