Stoner Sets the Pace at Laguna Seca

Casey_Stoner_Turn_3_PracticeCasey Stoner topped the timesheets today at Laguna Seca during the 10th round of the 2011 MotoGP season. Stoner was followed by his teammate, Dani Pedrosa, and 2010 champion Jorge Lorenzo.

Stoner, who currently leads the standings, finished the morning session with a 1'22.3 lap time around the California circuit, .1 seconds ahead of his teammate Dani Pedrosa, who had a slow speed crash during the first free practice session.

Jorge Lorenzo took the third place spot. Lorenzo, who won the Laguna Seca race in 2010, was just .018 seconds behind Pedrosa, .12 seconds off of Stoner's pace.

American Ben Spies took the fourth place spot, but couln't quite keep pace with the top three. Spies ended the session a half second behind the championship leader.

Andrea Dovizioso was able to beat Marco Simoncelli on the time sheets, while Americans Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards were both able to outpace Valentino Rossi.

American Superbike rider Ben Bostrom, who is racing in the MotoGP this weekend as a wildcard for the LCR Honda team, finished in 18th, five seconds behind Stoner's laptime.
