Red Bull USGP: Live Updates From Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Hot

Welcome to the Red Bull USGP. Teams, riders, and fans from all over the world are making their way to Monterey, California, for the 10th round of the 2011 MotoGP season and the 7th round of the 2011 AMA Pro Racing season.

Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, and Ben Spies will be racing in front of their home crowd for the first time this year, while Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo fight over the top spot in the MotoGP.

Fans in Monterey will also see some great racing action from the AMA, as Josh Hayes tries to reclaim the top spot from Blake Young. Danny Eslick should also have his hands full in the Daytona Sportbike class, as Josh Herrin will be fighting to regain valuable points this weekend.

  • 10:10 - MotoGP Free Practice

  • 4:20 - AMA Supersport Qualifying

9:15 - Supersport - Benny Solis kicks off the morning free practice session with a 1'31.896 laptime. It was a cold and damp session at Laguna Seca, so you can expect those times to drop a bit this afternoon. 

Dani Pedrosa takes a small spill during the opening free practice session. Pedrosa, even though he took the win at Saschenring, still may not be 100% this weekend. 

Stoner_close_up11:00 - MotoGP - Casey Stoner tops FP1. Stoner set a 1'22.3 lap time around the Laguna Seca track, beating out Jorge Lorenzo by .102 seconds. Lorenzo took third ahead of Spies and Dovizioso. (You can see the full report here.)

1:30 - Daytona Sportbike - Jason DiSalvo tops the first free pratice session for the Daytona Sportbike riders. DiSalvo finished with a 1'29.352 lap time, .29 seconds ahead of Danny Eslick. (Get the full report here.)

 2:30 - TTXGP/FIM ePower - Steve Rapp lead the way for the TTXGP/FIM E-Power series during the first free practice session of the weekend.rapp Rap set a 1'33.714 laptime today, beating out his closest competitor, Michael Czysz by 7 seconds. (Get the full results here.)

3:00 - MotoGP - Lorenzo leads FP2. Jorge Lorenzo relcaimed the top spot today during the second free practice session for the MotoGP riders. Lorenzo set a 1'22.056 lap time during FP2, beating out Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner. (Get full results here.)

4:15 - AMA Superbike - Josh Hayes starts off the weekend on the top of the sheets with the fastest time during the first Free Practice session for the AMA Superbike riders. Hayes outpaced season leader Blake Young and title contender Tommy Hayden today at Laguna Seca. [See the full results here.]

Fillmore_crash_turn_4_to_515Chris Fillmore goes down hard at turn five during the AMA Superbike free practice session. Fillmore laid on the ground motionless for a few moments before medics came to the scene. He eventually stood up under his own power, but was taken to the medical center to get checked out. 

5:00 - Supersport - Benny Solis takes the provisional pole position. Solis beat out David Gaviria and Tomas Puerta to claim the top spot after Q1. (Get the full results here.)

It's cold, rainy, and foggy in Monterey, California today. The morning Daytona Sportbike session was delayed a few minutes due to visibility. 

8:50 - Daytona Sportbike - Josh Herrin takes the provisional pole from Jason DiSalvo. DiSalvo lead for the majority of the session, but Herrin claimed the top spot in the final minutes of the first qualifying session. [See the full results here.]

9:45 - AMA Supersport - Benny Solis takes the pole position at Laguna Seca. (See the full report here.)

Lorenzo_CrashLorenzo has a huge highside at the end of FP2. The Yamaha rider was able to get up and walk off the track with the help of marshalls, but that was a nasty crash. 

11:00 - MotoGP - Stoner tops the final free practice session with a 1'21.806 lap time. Pedrosa followed just .017 seconds behind his teammate. (See the full report here.)

12:45 - Daytona Sportbike - Jason DiSalvo takes the pole position. DiSalvo will be joined on the front row by Josh Herrin and Danny Eslick. (See the full report here.

3:15 - MotoGP - Jorge Lorenzo takes the USGP pole position. Lorenzo, who had a rough crash at the end of FP3, put in a 1'21.02 lap time to take his second pole position of the season. [Full report here.]

The AMA Supersport race starts with a big pile-up at turn one. No red flag.

Solis_Wins4:00 - AMA Supersport - Benny Solis takes the win. Tomas Puerta, Corey Alexander, and David Gaviria dash across the line for second. The unofficial scoreboard shows Gaviria and Alexander crossing the line at the exact same time for third. [Full report here.]

Corey Alexander takes third place by .003 seconds. 

5:30 - Josh Hayes takes the pole position ahead of Tommy and Roger Hayden. [Full report here.]

6:30 - Steve Rap captures the pole position for the TTXGP / FIM e-Power series with a new lap record. [Full report here.]

SUNDAY SCHEDULE

  • 9:40 - MotoGP Warmp Up
  • 10:25 - TTXGP / FIM e-Power Race
  • 11:15 - Daytona Sportbike Race
  • 2:00 - MotoGP Race
  • 3:45 - AMA Superbike Race

11:00 - Steve Rapp takes the TTXGP / FIM e-Power win. Rapp, who has been the fastest electric motorcycle on the circuit all weekend, beat out Michael Czysz and Michael Barnes for the race win. [Full report here.]

1:00 - Danny Eslick took a big step forward toward the Daytona Sportbike championship today with his win at Laguna Seca. Not only did Eslick take the win, but his main title contender, Josh Herrin, retired from the race with a mechanical error. [Full report here.]

Jake Holden broke a few ribs during his crash at the start of the DSB race. Holden gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was taken away in the ambulance. 

2:00 - It's race time for the MotoGP!

3:15 - Stoner wins! Casey Stoner passed Jorge Lorenzo with a few laps remaining in the MotoGP race. Stoner was able to extend the gap to more than three seconds before taking the Laguna Seca win. Lorenzo and teammate Dani Pedrosa joined Stoner on the podium. [Full report here.]

4:30 - Tommy Hayden takes the win at Laguna Seca! Hayden was joined on the podium by Josh Hayes and Blake Young.
