MotoGP Season Reaches Halfway Point This Weekend

SachsenringThis weekend the MotoGP riders will head to the Sachsenring circuit in Germany for the ninth round of the 2011 MotoGP season. Casey Stoner leads the way at the halfway mark, but Lorenzo's most recent win in Italy has closed the gap to 19 points.

Lorenzo will be looking for his third win of the 2011 racing season this weekend, but he'll have to find it at a track where he has never found victory. Stoner will also be looking for his first victory in Germany. Stoner has taken a few pole positions and a few podiums, but he has never grabbed the top spot on the rostrum at Sachsenring.

Andrea Dovizioso is currently third in the standings, 33 points behind Lorenzo. Dovizioso, who has earned three consecutive podiums, will look to continue his streak this weekend at Sachsenring.

Valentino Rossi is further back in the points standings, but could cut down the gap this weekend. Rossi has four MotoGP wins at the German circuit. The Italian will also be celebrating his 250th GP start. Rossi is only the sixth rider to achieve that milestone.

Dani Pedrosa won the German GP last year, but Pedrosa may not be physically ready for another podium this weekend. Pedrosa sat out for three races before making his return at Mugello.
