Loris Capirossi has suited up to ride at Mugello for the last 20 years, but sadly, that streak comes to an end this weekend. Capirossi broke his ninth and tenth ribs and distorted the AC joint in his shoulder, and will not be able to race for the Pramac Racing team.
"I'm obviously very disappointed and angry,” Capirossi said. “I was hoping I could get on track for this race, but the double fracture of the ninth and tenth ribs and distorting the AC joint injury forced me to raise the white flag for the first time in my career for Mugello.”
Capirossi won the 250cc race at the San Marino GP event at Mugello in 1993, was the first rider to win a 500cc GP at Mugello, and since 2000, has claimed four podiums at the track.
“I'm sorry for the many fans who will be at Mugello, the track to which they are emotionally closest,” Capirossi said. “I have many fond memories of this track, I wanted to turn my season around at this circuit. Now I will have to rest, sit still for at least two weeks and try to get back on track as soon as possible."
Doctors originally thought that Capirossi could be ready for the Mugello GP, but a check-up yesterday, confirmed that his injuries needed more time to heal.
