The MotoGP is going green. The FIM, IRTA, Dorna, and the MSMA released a statement today saying that they “recognize” their responsibility to develop and participate new environmental initiatives to make sure future generations can enjoy motorcycle racing.
Here is the statement from the FIM:
"We: FIM, Dorna, IRTA MSMA, recognise our responsibility toward a sustainable development and the importance of protecting our planet for the benefit of future generations.
"We commit ourselves to cooperate in the implementation of different environmental management programmes for the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix with the aim of reducing our ecological footprint in our daily activities and developing a sustainable approach when organising our events.
"We will partner with the relevant stakeholders (media circuits among others) to develop these programmes starting with the press offices and progressively with pits, paddocks and hospitality units. Moreover, we will ensure the correct application of the FIM Environmental Code and promote awareness initiatives on environmental issues with the cooperation of high profile riders to inspire fans and motorcyclists worldwide to support this endeavour."
The MotoGP already has a few green initiatives in the works. The Pramac Racing team is known as the "green team," as they have an eco-hospitality tent. And several teams around the paddock use electric scooters for transportation.
