Casey Stoner take his second win of the 2011 MotoGP season today at the French GP. It was Stoner’s first victory at the Le Mans circuit, which he secured by more than 14 seconds ahead of his teammate Andrea Dovizioso.
Dovizioso achieved his best finish of the year by holding off the advances of Valentino Rossi. Rossi and Dovizioso battled until the end, but it was the Hond rider who would walk away with second place. It was still a good day for the Doctor, however, as Rossi earned his first podium of the 2011 MotoGP season.
Behind Rossi came 2010 MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo’s fourth place finish keeps him at the top of the standings, but he now only has a 12 point lead ahead of Stoner.
Dani Pedrosa, who had been one of the quickest riders throughout the weekend, was riding at the front of the pack until an incident with Marco Simoncelli sent the Spaniard to the pavement. Pedrosa would break his right collar bone, while Simoncelli was given a ride through penalty for performing an illegal maneuver. Simoncelli would eventually climb his way back up to fifth.
