Stoner Sets the Pace in Le Mans

casey_stoner_le_mansCasey Stoner started off the weekend with two fast free practice sessions. Stoner set the pace during FP1 at Le Mans, and maintained the top spot on the timesheets after FP2.

Stoner set a 1’33.782 lap time around the French circuit, beating out Marco Simoncelli by .4 seconds. Stoner’s teammate, Dani Pedrosa, finished third for the day, .6 seconds off of the pace.

Nicky Hayden was the fastest Ducati for the day. Hayden put in a late session effort to pass up Jorge Lorenzo for the fourth place spot. Lorenzo, who has taken the win at Le Mans for the last two consecutive years, finished in fifth, .8 seconds behind Stoner.

The third Repsol Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso, came across the line next, followed by Colin Edwards and Hiroshi Aoyama.

Valentino Rossi finished the day in ninth more than a second off of Pedrosa’s pace.
