For the fourth consecutive year, Jorge Lorenzo has taken the pole position at the Estoril circuit. Lorenzo beat out Macro Simoncelli and Dani Pedrosa to lead the grid during tomorrow’s race.
Lorenzo, who won the race in Jerez and currently leads the series, claimed his first pole position of the season with a 1’37.161 lap time. Simoncelli, who dominated both free practice sessions, looked like he was going to claim the pole position. But a late session crash put an end to that hope.
Dani Pedrosa took the final spot on the front row, beating out his Repsol Honda teammate by .06 seconds. Stoner will be joined by Ben Spies and the third Repsol Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso.
Valentino Rossi ha been able to keep himself within a half second of the top riders during qualifying, but the doctors could only manage a ninth place finish at more than a second behind Lorenzo during today’s qualifying.
Rossi finished behind the two Yamaha Tech 3 riders, Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow.
