Alvaro Bautista was given the go-ahead by his doctors yesterday to race in Estoril, but the Rizla Suzuki rider was still unsure about how he would perform on the Portugal track. Those fears were put to rest after the first free practice session.
Bautista wasn’t the fastest man on the track (actually he was the slowest) but Bautista said that his body felt good and that he intends to race this weekend.
Rizla Suzuki released the following statement:
Álvaro Bautista made a valiant MotoGP comeback on his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R at Estoril this morning and after completing an impressive 45-minute free-practice session he has confirmed that it his intention to continue riding for the rest of the weekend.
A full report on today’s proceedings and Bautista’s comeback to MotoGP will appear on the Rizla Suzuki website later today.
Bautista was lapping three seconds slower than the pace setter, Marco Simoncelli, but the Rizla Suzuki rider’s first free practice session was more about testing his physical condition than testing his speed.
