Pedrosa Ready for Return in Portugal

Dani_Pedrosa_Shoulder_InjuryAfter the Jerez round of the 2011 MotoGP season, Dani Pedrosa underwent surgery on his ailing shoulder. Pedrosa had a routine medical checkup on Monday, and all signs point to a successful return in Portugal.

“I want to tell you all how I’m doing after a few days of rest following the operation,” Pedrosa wrote on his blog. “It went well and at the moment I am following the recommendations made by the doctors to make sure my recovery goes as well as possible. Today, I had a routine check-up and everything seems to be going to plan, although you have to be cautious with these things until you actually get back on the bike.”

Pedrosa had corrective surgery on his left shoulder two weeks ago. The injury stems to an accident in October that broke Pedrosa’s collar bone. Pedrosa had a few screws removed from his collar bone during the surgery, which had caused pressure on his left subclavian artery.

“The important thing is to see what it feels like when I'm back on the bike and if I’m able to forget about the problems I’ve had,” Pedrosa said. “As I’ve said, I’ve been resting quietly at home these last few days and following the usual course recommended by doctors in these cases. Although my recuperation has coincided with a break in the racing calendar, I really want to get back to competition, work with the team and above all get back on the bike.”

Pedrosa is currently in second place in the standings, 9 points behind Jorge Lorenzo. Pedrosa has been on the podium at every race so far, and if he can compete in Portugal, he’ll be likely to continue that streak.

“We will arrive in Portugal with 36 points, only nine behind the leader,” Pedrosa said. “It’s a very good position to be in at the start of a championship, particularly considering the injury.”
