There were no surprises up at the front on Friday in Jerez, as the Repsol Honda duo of Casey Stonery and Dani Pedrosa led the way during both free practice sessions for the MotoGP. Stoner set the pace during FP1, while his teammate took the lead during FP2. Stoner was still fastest for the day.
Pedrosa and Stoner were the only two riders to drop below the 1'40 mark today in Jerez, but they weren't able to hold onto the quick pace during FP2. In fact, practically the entire MotoGP grid was unable to better their times during FP2, despite ideal conditions at the Spanish circuit.
The biggest surprise of the day was a quick Valentino Rossi. Rossi has not been able to keep pace with the top riders so far this season, but his performance during FP1 showed the Ducati garage a little piece of hope. Rossi was third fastest for the day, but was still .5 seconds behind the pace setters.
Marco Simoncelli was the fourth quickest, bringing another Honda into the top 5, before Jorege Lorenzo crossed the line in 5th. The final Repsol Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso, was the final rider to finish within a second of the pace setter.
