Elias Has Screws Removed From Right Ankle, Left Wrist

toni_eliasToni Elias went under the knife last night, as he had to have screws removed from his right hand and his left ankle. Elias spent the night at the hospital, but is now recovering fine.

“I had a peaceful night and I have to say it is a lot less painful than I expected,” Elías said. “This was a good time to have this operation, because now I have plenty of time to recover ahead of the Test in February. After 15 days I’ll start a full rehabilitation.”

Elias had the screws inserted after a crash in March during testing at Jerez. Despite his injury, Elias rode a nearly flawless Moto2 season, and claimed the 2010 Moto2 Championship title. After his 2010 Moto2 performance, Elias signed with the LCR Honda team, and will be racing in the MotoGP next year.

Dr Joaquim Casanas performed the surgery on Elias last night in Barcelona. Elias is now out of the hospital, and will be in attendance for the presentation of the Talita Foundation’s 2011 calendar. Elias will also receive an award on Thursday in Portugal.
