Dani Pedrosa was forced to miss the MotoGP race in Malaysia due to a broken collarbone. While Pedrosa was on the sidelines, he watched Jorge Lorenzo clinch the 2010 MotoGP championship.But Pedrosa was not bitter about defeat, and offered his congratulations toward Lorenzo and his team.
“I think it's very good for Spain to have another World Champion in the top class after Alex Crivillé's first title back in 1999. That was a long time ago… too long. So I'd like to say congratulations to Lorenzo,” said Pedrosa. “He rode very well this year right from the beginning of the season and made very few mistakes - so he deserves the title.”
Now with the championship out of play, Pedrosa will return to the MotoGP circuit, where he will have to defend his second place position from Valentino Rossi.
Pedrosa has a 47 point lead over Rossi, but there are still 75 points to be had in the 2010 MotoGP season, and Rossi has finally gotten back into his groove. The Italian took his first race victory since the opening round at Qatar last weekend, and is looking to finish his season strong.
“The championship is decided, but for us it's still not over,” Pedrosa said. “The target now is to retain second place in the standings and continue working on the bike so that we arrive in good shape for the winter tests, when we will start working for next year."
