Stoner Takes First Win of the Season at Aragon Hot

motogp_stonerToday was a good day for Ducati. Not only did Casey Stoner take his first win of the 2010 MotoGP season, but his Ducati teammate Nicky Hayden found the podium for the first time as well. The two Ducati men were separated by Dani Pedrosa, who finished second.

Stoner rode a flawless race today as he led every lap of the MotoGP race at Aragon from the pole position. Stoner would finish with more than 5 seconds between himself and Pedrosa.

The battle for third was much closer. Jorge Lorenzo held onto the third place position for almost the entire race, but in the closing laps, Nicky Hayden began to charge. It wasn't until the last lap that Hayden was finally able to get the better of Lorenzo, and crossed the line .08 seconds ahead of the season leader. It is the first time this season that Lorenzo has finished off of the podium.

Ben Spies took another impressive finish with fifth place behind Lorenzo. He was followed by Andrea Dovizioso, and a struggling Valentino Rossi. Rossi never found the groove of the Aragon track, and finished more than 25 seconds behind Stoner.

For the third race in a row, Lorenzo's lead has dwindled. Lorenzo still has an impressive lead, but it has dropped from more than 80 points, to 56. Lorenzo currently has 284 to Pedrosa's 228. Stoner is in third with 155, followed by Rossi and Dovizioso.
