2010 MotoGP Preview: Motorland Aragon Hot

motogp_motorland_aragonFor the third time this season the MotoGP will head to Spain, but it will be the first time that any of the riders have raced on the Motorland Aragon track. The Aragon track is a brand new addition to the MotoGP circuit, and each rider will be looking to leave their mark on the track this weekend. Many of the MotoGP racers did test runs at Aragon earlier this year, so no one is going into this weekend's race completely blind.

Jorge Lorenzo is looking to claim his third Spanish GP victory of the 2010 MotoGP season. Lorenzo has already claimed victory in Jerez and Catalunya, and will look to Aragon to continue his perfect streak in his home country. Lorenzo may have two consecutive race wins on Spanish soil, but Dani Pedrosa is the one riding a hot streak into Aragon. Pedrosa has slowly been cutting into Lorenzo's 63 point lead by taking back-to-back wins at Indianapolis and Misano. But Lorenzo hasn't been making it easy for Pedrosa to cut away at his lead. Lorenzo has been on the podium for each of Pedrosa's victories this year.

“I’m looking forward to arriving at MotorLand Aragon and trying the new track on the RC212V,” Pedrosa said. “I did some laps in July with a Honda CBR1000RR street bike and I really enjoyed the layout – I loved the circuit. It’s very different to the ones we are used to racing at in the MotoGP championship, and so it will be really interesting this weekend.”

Pedrosa's teammate, Andrea Dovizioso, currently sits in third, but his position on the leader board will be in jeopardy this weekend. Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner are both just nine points behind.

Rossi has slowly been recovering from his injury earlier this season, but says that he is getting closer and closer to being at 100%.

“I am feeling stronger and fitter every day so I will be aiming for the podium again this time," Rossi said.

Behind Rossi and Stoner is an increasingly impressive Ben Spies. Spies is sitting 10 points back behind Stoner and Rossi, and has proven that he is capable of finishing on the podium. Spies has had the disadvantage of going in blind to most tracks on the MotoGP circuit this year, but this weekend the playing field is even, as Aragon is new to all the MotoGP riders.
