Dani Pedrosa won his second consecutive MotoGP race today, but it will be hard for him, any MotoGP rider, or any MotoGP fan to celebrate tonight. During the Moto2 event, a shocking crash killed rider Shoya Tomizawa.
"I found out now, when things like this happen nothing else matters," world champion Valentino Rossi said. "He was a lovely guy, it was a horrible accident."
The accident occurred during the Moto2 race, which took place just before the MotoGP riders took the track at Misano. It is likely that the MotoGP riders didn't know about Tomizawa's death until after the race.
Pedrosa led the entire race from the pole position. His lead was as big as six seconds ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, who would eventually pull within 2 seconds at the finish line. Valentino Rossi would make it back onto the podium in front of his home crowd, giving the people of San Marino something to cheer for on this tragic day.
Dovizioso took fourth ahead of Casey Stoner and Ben Spies.
Pedrosa cuts again into Lorenzo's lead, but with Lorenzo keeping himself on the podium, the advances made by Pedrosa are kept to a minimum. Pedrosa now trails in the series by 63 points.
