Nicky Hayden to Serve as Grand Marshal at Indy Mile

motogp_nicky_haydenWhen the MotoGP riders arrive in Indianapolis this weekend, most of them will immediately start to gear up for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. But Nicky Hayden will make his way across town to the legendary Indy Mile, where he will be serving as the Grand Marshall for the Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Pro K&N Grand National Championship.

Hayden, 29, is from nearby Owensboro Kentucky, and throughout his international racing career, has earned the nickname the Kentucky Kid. Hayden will meet the AMA riders at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, where thousands will meet to watch the “crown jewel” of flat track motorcycle racing.

This year marked the first Ducati win for a flat track mile, and with Hayden present, Joe Kopp and his Ducati team will have some added incentive to claim win number two.

“We’re honored to have a U.S. and World Champion such as Nicky Hayden serve as Grand Marshal”, said Mike Moore, president of The Promotion Company-Family Events, producers of the Lucas Oil Indy Mile. “It’s a fitting tribute Nicky’s many accomplishments, especially here at the legendary Lucas Oil Indy Mile where he was first honored as a rookie.”
