Fiat Yamaha has confirmed that reigning MotoGP champion, Valentino Rossi, will return for the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring this weekend. Rossi has been out for six weeks while teammate Jorge Lorenzo has built a commanding lead in the MotoGP series. Rossi's injury has all but shattered his chances of winning an 8th straight MotoGP title, but now the reigning champ will return to competition. Rossi has been approved by Fiat Yamaha's medical team, but he will have to undergo an evaluation from MotoGP doctors before he is ok'd to rejoin the competition on Friday.
Rossi has missed four MotoGP races, and has dropped down to 7th place with 104 points. Lorenzo has a commanding lead with 275. It is definately an uphill battle, but it is possible for Rossi to regain the lead.
“I'm really excited that my doctors think I can ride this weekend,” enthused the 31-year-old. “Tomorrow I will see the medical officer and then we will have the final decision. I felt good on the R1; I know my M1 at the track is a different thing and it will be hard for me, but I miss my bike and my team and I want to try."
