The MotoGP will head to Great Britain this weekend for the first British GP at Silverstone in 20 years. With Valentino Rossi out for the foreseeable future, all eyes will be on Jorge Lorenzo who now has a commanding lead over the rest of the pack. Lorenzo has two wins so far this season, and has never finished below second place. He is 25 points ahead of Dani Pedrosa, and will be tough to catch the way he has been riding this season.
But at Silverstone, the playing field will be as even as it can get. None of the riders have any experience around the British track, and if there is going to be an upset this season, it will be done at Silverstone.
“I will do some laps with the scooter on Thursday; I don't always do this but I think it's very important because so far I've only seen the track on the Play Station and it's changed quite a lot," said Lorenzo. "My aim is once again to get on the podium. I am happy with my lead in the standings but I want to keep improving.”
Lorenzo will have to watch out for Pedrosa around the Silverstone track. Pedrosa is coming off of his first win of the MotoGP season at Mugello, and is Lorenzo's biggest contender.
"We arrive at Silverstone in good shape after the victory in Mugello,” said Pedrosa. “We had a very good weekend in Italy and myself and the team need to make the most of it to maintain this momentum.”
Andrea Dovioso is currently fourth in the standings, third if you do not count Rossi, and has been consistently on the podium during the 2010 MotoGP, with 3 out of four podium finishes.
With Rossi off the track, and the MotoGP heading to unfamiliar territory, the Silverstone race is bound to be surprising for both the riders and fans.
