Jorge Lorenzo joined the Catalan police last week to take part in a Catalan road safety campaign to raise awareness among motorcyclist in order to prevent accidents. Lorenzo is the current leader in the MotoGP Championship, and needless to say, motorcyclists respect his opinion about anything relating to bikes.
Lorenzo stood along the C-35 motorway, where motorcyclists passing by would stop and talk to the MotoGP leader. Lorenzo and the Catalan police department handed out safety leaflets that carried the slogan ‘Do not wash your hands.’
Lorenzo’s appearance was not advertised, and many of the motorcyclists who stopped were surprised to see the MotoGP rider standing along with the Catalan police.
“I’ve never been on the road next to police, and it’s been an experience to see how they listen to the motorcyclists. At first I didn’t know how to pass on all the points of the campaign, but I think they’ve understood that the important thing is to behave on the road,” said Lorenzo. “The bike is a precious object, one to enjoy. Few things are comparable to riding a motorbike, but you have to do it with care and must respect yourself and everyone else.”
Lorenzo took pictures and signed autographs with the motorcyclists that passed by.
“Those who want to race must go to the circuit. If being here today means an accident has been prevented and a life saved, then it will have been worth it,” added Lorenzo.
The MotoGP riders have the weekend off, as they prepare for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, in Le Mans.
