Alvaro Bautista started his Motogp career with a strong race at Qatar, only to crash on the last lap around the Losail track. The Rizla Suzuki rider now looks to Jerez for his first MotoGP points as he competes in his first premier class race in front of a home crowd at the Gran Premio bwin de Espana. Bautista has had success around the Jerez track, but never at the MotoGP level. In 2006, he won in the 125cc class. He has also placed second twice in the 250cc class. Bautista will look to score his first ever MotoGP points in Jerez.
“I am still disappointed about Qatar, it was not the best way to start in MotoGP, but this is another race and I must learn from what happened last time,” said Bautista. “It will be a big weekend for me because it will be the first time I have raced in Spain for Suzuki, so I hope to put on a good show for all the Spanish fans.”
Bautista’s more experienced teammate, Loris Capirossi, will seek his 100th Grand Prix podium at Jerez. Capirossi has missed the podium at Jerez for Rizla Suzuki over the past two years, with a fifth place finish in 2008, and a sixth place finish in 2009.
“I can’t wait to get to Jerez to start working again; we have gone quite well there in the last couple of years so hopefully things will be good,” said Capirossi.
