Debuting this weekend at
The new stepping stone for future MotoGP stars, Moto2 was designed to cut costs. All teams use spec Honda CBR600RR engines and Dunlop tires, but can do whatever they want with the chassis and suspension; there are currently 14 chassis providers.
And when costs are low, grids are high. The field for the opening race at Losail International Circuit features 40 riders.
Competition should be fierce and tight, and many fans will naturally gravitate towards the seven riders with MotoGP experience, including Toni Elias (Team Gresini), Anthony West (MZ Racing), Gabor Talmacsi (Fimmco Speed), Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR), Yuki Takahashi (Tech 3 Racing), Alex de Angelis and Niccolo Canepa (RSM Team Scot).
Elias, expected to be popular in the series, may not race due to recent surgery for injuries sustained while testing; the team is expected to make their decision before the April 11th season opener in
