Retired seven-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin recently praised Ben Spies, saying during the On the Throttle YouTube video that he “never raced anyone as good as Ben, ever.”
This praise comes just weeks before Spies competes in MotoGP as a rookie with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team besides fellow American Colin Edwards.
Spies, who won the 2009 World Superbike Championship during his rookie year, is already making headlines. During the second session of pre-season MotoGP testing at Sepang, the 25-year-old posted the fifth fastest lap time on his Yamaha M1; Valentino Rossi posted the quickest.
The Texan’s first MotoGP race will occur on April 11, when the series kicks off under the floodlights at Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
