When the Moto2 series comes to America at the end of the month for the Indy GP at the Indianapolis Speedway, the already crowded grid will see two new faces. Martin Cardenas and JD Beach will both be racing in the Moto2 class at Indy.
Beach and Cardenas will be representing the AMA at the Indy GP as the two do battle with nearly 40 other Moto2 riders from around the globe. Kenny Noyes, Jake Gagne, will also be representing the USA.
Beach, who is competing in the AMA Superbike series this year at just 19-years-old, will be replacing Tommaso Lorenzetti for the Aeroport de Castello FTR team. The official entry list has Beach listed as a "permanent replacement," but Beach has only confirmed that he'll be racing Moto2 at Indy.
"I get to ride a moto2 bike at Indy in the GP," Beach said. "Little bummed out I won't be riding the mile but can't wait for the GP."
Since Beach is considered a replacement rider, he won't be able to test the FTR Moto2 Motorcycle at Indy this weekend with the rest of the AMA riders. Beach made a big step up this year to the AMA Superbike class, and he's done pretty well with 5 top 10 finishes. Moto2 is another beast entirely, however, but Beach should be able to handle the 600cc machine.
Martin Cardenas will also be racing in the Moto2 at the end of August. Cardenas, who won the 2010 Daytona Sportbike crown and is currently 4th in the AMA Superbike standings with three wins, will be replacing Yonny Hernandez the Blusens-STX FTR team. Cardenas has some experience in the World series, having raced in the 250cc class in 2005 and 2006.
