For the second day in a row, weather has interupted the Moto2 testing session at Estoril. The heavy rain forced many of the Moto2 and 125cc riders to abandon the testing session completely.
The first day of testing saw early morning rain, but some sun in the afternoon allowed most riders to take a few laps around the track. The fastest times of the day dipped below the 1'44 mark, but most riders were happy to just get out and test out the track.
“Although today I would have liked to ride with the track in perfect conditions, I think that today we did a great job," said Santi Hernandez of the Stop and Go Racing Team. "I have never ridden at the Estoril circuit and I have to say that I like it a lot because suits my riding style due to its twisty turns and its ups and downs.. The main goal for me today was to refine my position on the bike, I made big steps in Valencia last week and little by little I am improving it although I think that I still have a lack of kilometers on the bike and for sure more time on the bike will help me to go quicker and quicker. Now I have to wait good conditions for tomorrow to ride the bike that is what I want.”
But Hernandez and the rest of the Moto2 padock didn't get better weather conditions on day 2. More rain and wind made if difficult for anyone to get on the track.
But a few brave riders ventured out onto the track amidst rain and strong winds. The Pons Racing duo of Aleix Espargaró and Axel Pons, MZ Racing's Anthony West and Max Neukirchner, Technomag CIP’s team of Kenan Sofuoglu and Dominique Aegerter, Tech 3’s Mike di Meglio and Bradley Smith and Randy Krummenacher of Kiefer Racing braved the conditions to get a better feel for the track.
A few riders took falls on the wet track, but no one was injured.
The Moto2 riders will have one more day of testing at Estoril tomorrow, and hopefully, the sun will be shining.
