Abraham Scores Maiden Victory at Moto2 Finale Hot

moto2_valenciaThe 2010 Moto2 season officially ended today with one last fast paced race at Valencia. Karel Abraham scored his first win of the Moto2 season, beating out Andrea Iannone and Julian Simon.

Iannone and Simon were battling for second place in the standings behind Toni Elias, and even though Iannone beat Simon across the line, Simon was able to hold onto a slight lead on the leader board. Simon clinched the second place spot for the 2010 Moto2 season by just two points ahead of Iannone.

At the start of the Moto2 race, there were a number of riders fighting for the top spot. Iannone charged out from the starting line to take an early lead, but was quickly followed by world champion Toni Elias, Scot Redding, Stefan Bradl, and Kenan Sofuoglu.

Bradl and Sofuoglu would both be forced to retire before the end of the race, and Redding, who became the youngest person to make 50 GP starts, couldn't keep up with the pace of the leaders.

Simon was able to crawl his way back to the front, after falling to as low as ninth place, and entered into a fierce battle with Iannone and Elias around the Valencia track. Elias would end up crashing after clipping Iannone's rear wheel, but it wasn't enough to slow Iannone down as he crossed the finish line .06 seconds ahead of Simon.

Thomas Luthi took fourth, and Redding finished off the season with a fifth place finish.

  • Toni Elias - 271
  • Julian Simon - 201
