It is Simon's third pole position of the 2010 Moto2 season, but the Mapfre Aspar rider has yet to claim a Moto2 win. Still, Simon remains the only person who can stop Toni Elias from clinching the first Moto2 championship this weekend on the Sepang track.
Elias currently has an 81 point lead in the series. If he can leave Malaysia with 76 points between himself and Simon, he will be crowned the 2010 Moto2 champ. Elias will be starting from the last spot on the front row during tomorrow's race.
Between the two title contenders on the grid tomorrow will be Alex de Angelis and Thomas Luthi. For Luthi, it is the first time he has started on the front row since July.
