Simon Slips by Elias in FP1

moto2_simonJulian Simon put in the fastest lap during the free practice session for the Moto2 at Motegi. Simon scored a 1'54.203 time, beating out season leader Toni Elias by a tenth of a second.

Simon took a fall while trying to better his time toward the end of the session, but walked away without incident. Alex de Anglis was another tenth of a second behind Elias.

Scott Redding had a solid showing in fourth. Redding has just agreed to continue with his Marc VDS Racing Team for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, and will be looking to prove to VDS that it was a good choice this weekend.

Behind Redding was Yonny Hernandez and Simon Corsi.

Andrea Iannone, who won the Moto2 event at Motegi last year, finished in 27th during the first free practice session.

Here is the report from the MotoGP Free Practice session at Motegi.
