Moto2 - Elias Wins at Home Track

moto2_eliasThe initial race for the Moto2 riders at Jerez was halted by red flags when as many as nine bikes piled up at Dry Sack. Shoya Tomizawa and Simone Corsi came together going into a turn, and seven more riders followed them into the asphalt, including race winner Toni Elias.

When the race restarted, just a half hour later, Kenny Noyes took the lead ahead of Elias and Tomizawa. The lead changed hands many times throughout the race, but as riders made their way toward the checkers, Elias made an outstanding move in front of his home crowd to overtake the leaders by just .19 seconds as the checkered flags fell.

Tomizawa, who won the first Moto2 race at Qatar, was next on the podium. Tomizawa’s two consecutive podiums allows him to maintain his spot at the top in the overall standings. Elias is now in second place with 38 points, 7 behind the leader.

Thomas Luthi finished third for the day and is third in the overall standings.
