Alex Debon started his home Grand Prix for Moto2 at Jerez with the fastest lap at the first free practice session. The Aeroport de Castello-Ajo rider, who finished second at the opening round of the season three weeks ago at Losail, set the best lap with a 1’44.419 time.Behind Debon was a tight line of competitors. The top ten riders all finished within one second of the leading man around the track, and nine different manufacturers made their way into the top ten.
The biggest gap in the top ten was between Debon and his closest competitor, Gabor Talmacsi (Gimmco Speed up), who finished .46 seconds behind the leader. MotoGP rookie Kenny Noyes (Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas) had an impressive lap around the track to finish off the top three just .04 seconds behind Talmasci.
Next in line came Yuki Takahashi of Tech3 Racing, followed closely by Sergio Gadea (Tenerife 40 Pons) to complete the top five.
