Moto2 kicked off the 2012 season at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. Thomas Luthi #12 grabbed the lead on the opening lap with the field in close pursuit. The battle up front was a struggle for the top four with them changing positions often. Near the race end the action intensified with #93 Marc Marquez leading the contest.

On the final lap Marquez and Luthi were almost trading paint as the blasted down the straight. Then #12 Thomas Luthi was forced wide which gave Marquez the lead and the eventual race win a few turns later.

Elena Rosell was the first woman to race a Moto2 race during the 2011 season. Next year, she'll be the first woman to race full time in the Moto2 World Championship class.

The Aspar Team will have two champions in its garages in 2012. Toni Elias, who won the Moto2 Championship in 2012, will return to the class to defend after spending 2011 in the MotoGP. And Nicolas Terol, who won the 2011 125cc Championship, will be stepping up to the Moto2 class in 2012.

For the last few weeks rumors have been floating around about the future of Marc Marquez. Would the Moto2 star make the move to MotoGP? Marquez and CatalunyaCaixa Repsol team manager Emilio Alzamora addressed the question today. Marc Marquez will stay in the Moto2 class in 2012.

Marc Marquez was the first of three Spaniards to cross the line at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Marquez, who is now 28 points from the top of the Moto2 championship standings, was joined by Pol Espargaro and Esteve Rabat on the podium.
