After a four-bike crash that brought out the safety car for four laps at Infineon Raceway during Race 1 in AMA Daytona Sportbike Saturday, Martin Cardenas on the No. 36 Team M4 Suzuki GSX-R600 remained calm behind the field until taking the lead on lap 12, out-running the 40-rider field to his fourth victory of the season.

The native of Columbia finished 2.158 seconds ahead of Jamie Hacking on the No. 88 Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R and third-place finisher Steve Rapp on the No 15 Bazzaz Yamaha YZF-R6 at the Kawasaki Superbike Showdown presented by Supercuts, making for three different manufacturers on the podium after the 22-lap race.

Bridgestone review: Le Mans

Bridgestone review tricky afternoon at Le Mans

Monday, 18 May 2009

The tire suppliers to the premier class were satisfied with the performance of their material over another complicated weekend.

The weather has not been kind to MotoGP or its single tire suppliers thus far in the first year of the new tire regulations, with highly difficult circumstances to deal with at three of the four Grands Prix which have already taken place in 2009.

The southern Spanish sunshine in Jerez came as a relief after the disruptive downpours in Qatar and Japan, but a visit to Le Mans with its notoriously changeable micro-climate meant the thinking caps were on again for the riders and their teams on Sunday.

Bridgestone do not supply intermediate rubber this year so the MotoGP stars commenced the Le Mans race on wet tires with much of the track already drying, as the sun came out, the key strategy of the racing thus converted into when to make a pitlane entrance and switch onto a slick-equipped second bike.

The constantly evolving 2009 MotoGP World Championship continues this weekend, with the Le Mans circuit set to host a fourth round that will see each practice session return to a 60-minute format, as opposed to the 45-minute rule imposed at the start of the season.

There is constant evolution behind the scenes too, specifically in Bologna and at Mugello, where Ducati test rider Vittoriano Guareschi is preparing to be joined tomorrow by Troy Bayliss for the start of a three-day test focused on using the data from the opening three rounds of the season to further develop the GP9.
