Yamaha R6 Series Cup

Paola Cazzola not only finished first in the Yamaha R6 Series Cup race ahead of her male competitors Giampietro Avanza and the leader of the championship Stefano Casalotti, but she made history by becoming the first woman to ever win amongst group A division riders, the fastest group of the R6 Metzler Cup.

She started out strong by achieving the third best time in the qualifying rounds. The race was full of excitement as Cazzola and three other racers battled for lead.  Cazzola managed to take the lead half-way through the last lap following the fall of Alessandro Celestini, who had been the fastest rider for the first half of the race.

Yamaha R6 Series CupWinning is nothing new to the 31-year-old Paola Cazzola from Vicenza, Italy, who has been referred to as the “Valentino Rossi in pink”.  Cazzola won the Italian Campionato Italiano Motocicliste in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and the European Women Cup in 2006.  In 2008 she was riding with the Yamaha YZF-R1 from the Yamaha team Pielle Moto- Villa Sandra and won the five races in the Championship, achieved five pole positions and rode four fastest lap times.

We look forward to seeing more wins from the “Valentino Rossi in pink”.
