The 2012 edition of the Dakar Rally kicks off in just a few days. Riders like Cyril Despres, Marc Coma, and Chris Birch will head out on a 5,000 mile race through South America on New Years Day for the 34th running of the Dakar.
Marc Coma will be looking for his second consecutive victory while Cyril Despres will be hoping to reclaim the title. Coma and Despress have won the last 6 Dakar rallies and if either one manages to grab the championship this year they'll give KTM its 11th consecutive title.
The Dakar rally will lead riders on a 5,600 mile journey through South America. Starting in Argentina and ending in Peru, the Dakar racers will face deserts, mountains, and canyons for 14 days.
