Michael Rutter Makes History With 7th Macau GP Win [Video]

michael_rutterMichael Rutter now has more Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix wins than anyone in history. Rutter took his 7th victory at the famous Guia street circuit, breaking the record held by Ron Haslam since 2005.

Rutter was followed across the line by his teammate Martin Jessopp and fellow Brit Ian Hutchinson. American Jeremy Toye took fourth for the Kawasaki team.

Rutter started the weekend off great by claiming the pole position on his RidersMotorcycle.com Ducati 1200. Rutter continued his fast pace during the race. He claimed the fastest lap of the race and ended up taking the win by more than 4.5 seconds.

But Rutter didn't lead the entire race. Hutchinson took the jump off the line while Rutter, Jessopp, and McGuinness engaged in a three way battle.

Rutter was eventually able to make his way through the pack, and by lap four, he had overtaken Hutchinson.

After the race, Rutter had nothing but praise for his fellow races and his teammate Martin.

"Martin has been there all year," Rutter said. "He's come along and learned a lot. It's been a brilliant season."

Jessopp returned the praise, saying: "The last two years I've been learning from Michael. I hit the wall pretty hard on lap 1, so I settled down after that. I think Michael was playing with us for the first couple of laps."

Here's a highlight video of Rutter's historic victory.
