The world's best electric motorcycle racers competed for 12 rounds on three different continents during the 2011 TTXGP season, but only one was crowned the champion. Matthias Himmelmann claimed his second consecutive TTXGP title this weekend as the season concluded in the UK.
The 2011 TTXGP season was divided into three separate series. The top riders from the North American, Australian, and European series were invited to the UK for a winner takes all event. Himmelman and the Munch Racing team competed against riders like Ho Chi Fung of the Zongshen Racing team, Richie Welsh of Arch EV, and David Hallet of the Hallet racing team. American riders like North American champion, Brammo rider Steve Atlas, were not in attendance.
Himmelmann was dominant during the final race of the season, finishing the race 40 seconds over his competitors.
"I worked hard over the winter riding bicycles and weight training, to get fitter for this season and it has paid off, I will continue to do this for the future," Himmelmann said. "My favorite race of the season was SPA francorchamps, it is an amazing circuit. All the development that we do with these race bikes goes into our plan to make production bikes."
Ho Chi Fung, who took second, said: "Im very happy. I worked hard with the engineers and mechanics from the start of the season. We gained confidence and gradually increased the speed of the bike...To be second in the TTXGP championship was unexpected, and lucky (in our 1st year). Some of the other teams had problems . We have gained good experience this year, and will take that knowledge forward to next year and the future."
