James Stewart is best known for his performance on two wheels, but the motocross star will try to impress the crowd this weekend in a cage. Bubba will be racing in the Traxxas TORC Series at the at Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 Raceway's dirt oval this weekend.
Stewart, who has 5 AMA National titles, decided to sit out most of the 2011 dirt racing season. Stewart was pretty banged up after the Supercross season and decided to give himself a little break. Stewart may not be hopping back on a competitive bike yet, but he is getting back in the dirt.
"I'm looking forward to racing this week," said Stewart. "Since I was a kid I've always wanted to race trucks and now I can finally do that. I'm just out here to spin a few laps and have some fun. I haven't driven this particular truck yet – and have only driven a stick shift once before this Wednesday night's race, but I'm sure we'll figure it out.
"I'm looking forward to driving with the other drivers and having a blast with them and the fans."
So maybe Stewart won't exactly be competitive this weekend but it should be fun to watch.
"Everyone on the Traxxas TORC Series tour is pumped to have an action sports icon such as James Stewart on board with us in Chicago next week," said Kevin Miller, the President of USAC/TORC. "We're confident James is going to have the time of his life on the dirt oval at Route 66 Raceway – and strongly feel this won't be the last time you see him racing an off-road truck on the TORC Series."
Stewart hasn't made any announcements about his plans for 2012, but I'm hoping he gets back on a bike.
