Himmelman Wins Assen Round of TTXGP

himmelman_assenMatthaias Himmelman won the third round of the European TTXGP at Assen this weekend by a comfortable margin. Himmelman outpaced Team Zongshen's Ho Chi Fung and Gamma Racing's Jasper Iwema for the victory at Assen.

Alessandro Brannetti had claimed the pole position for Italy's CRP team, but Brannetti retired from the race after a few laps with a mechanical error.

CRP Racing team manager Livia Cevolini said:

"When the bike works as it should do, it is fantastic, it feels great. The bike is working well and everyone who rides it come away smiling, the only problem we have is the reliability of the motor. We will be working hard to solve the problem for the next round."

WIth Brannetti out of the race, Himmelman was able to gain a big lead. Himmelman would cross the line more than 25 seconds before Fung and Iwema. The battle for second came down to the wire as Fung crossed the line just .2 seconds ahead of his competitor.

The 60,000 fans at the Assen circuit also got to see a great battle for fourth. Tang Yu and Mikael Nilsson matched each other lap for lap. Nilsson looked like he had the win in the bag, but Nilsson's bike couldn't keep momentum for the length of the race. As Nilsson slowed, Yu was able to steal the fourth place spot by .6 seconds.

Himmelman has won the last two TTXGP events and currently leads the series with 50 points.

The European portion of the 2011 TTXGP will continue on September 4th in Sweden.
