Yukio Kagayama helped the Yoshimura Suzuki team claim the top spot during on the timesheets for the second day in a row at the Suzuka 8 Hours. The Yoshimura Suzuki topped the free practice session on the first day, and followed that up with another quick pace during qualifying.
Kagayama was able to bring his GSX-R1000 to the front of the grid with the only lap under the 2'08 mark. The Suzuka 8 Hour is the only endurance event on the FIM Endurance World Championship calendar that uses a single rider time to determine the grid, as opposed to the average team time.
Kosuke Akiyoshi gave the Honda FCC TSR team a second place qualifying position with a 2'08.260, while Takumi Takahashi took third for Honda Musashi RT Harc Pro.
The 2010 Suzuka 8 Hour champions, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT), wasn't able to live up to expectations today. SERT qualified in 15th today with the help of 2010 polesitter Daisaku Sakai. The SERT team was a late entry this year, and they'll be clawing their way up from behind during the race this weekend.
The Honda TT Legends Team is even further behind. The TT Legends team, which is made up of John McGuinness, Keith Amor and Cameron Donald, qualified 20th.
