Last month, Steve Rapp took his Mission Motors electric motorcycle on to the Laguna Seca track for a couple of testing sessions. Rapp set a 1'43.7 laptime during his tests, which at the time, was a new lap record. What a difference a month can make.
Rapp bettered his time by 10 seconds today, setting a 1'33.714 time during the first free practice session for the TTXGP/FIM E-Power series at the Mazda Raceway.
Rapp beat out Michael Czysz, who finished in second with a 1'40.968 lap time.
But Rapp wasn't the fastest bike on the track. Michael Barnes brought his Lightning Motors motorcycle up to an incredible speed of 210 kph (130 mph.) Barnes wouldn't be able to keep his speed up for a full lap, however, and had to settle for third behind Czysz and Rapp.
Matthias Himmelmann and Steve Atlas took fourth and fifth.
