Dunlop Defeats Martin at Southern 100

Southern_100_RaceMichael Dunlop overtook Guy Martin on the final lap of the Corletts Trophies 1000cc Race at the Isle of Man. Both Dunlop and Martin put in a couple of laps under Martin's 2008 lap record during an exciting Southern 100 race.

Martin lead for the majority of the race, but Dunlop found his way around Martin at "Stadium Bend" on his way to victory.

"I made a lunge into stadium and lost the front end and went right out onto the kerb," Dunlop said. "It was messy but held it to get through. It was a great race and I thought that Guy was away at the start but I just plugged and plugged away."

Dunlop walks away from the race with the new lap record, a  2:16.213 lap time, averaging 112.324mph around the mountain course.

"Fair play to the boy. He was spot on," Martin said. "I looked back at one point and knew he was there and going into Cross Four-ways we came into some backmarkers on the last lap but no complaints. Proper race."

Wayne Hamilton won the 600cc race, and Klaus Klaffenbock/Dan Sayle took the victory for in the sidecar race.
