Multi-talented motorcycle racer Jordan Szoke has been chosen by the Board of Directors of the Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA) to compete for his country in the 2011 FIM Trial des Nations to be held in Italy.
Szoke and the Trial des Nations
You may or may not know Jordan Szoke based mostly on whether you have any interest in Canadian motorcycle racing. He has been in the sport since the tender age of 15 and, in fact, was the youngest racer to earn a professional road racing license in the nation in his first year. Szoke’s experience competing against the world’s best trials riders began with the 2002 Trial des Nations in Portugal.
The 2011 event will be Jordan Szoke’s seventh time on the Canadian national team, and for good reason. His CMA Observed Trials Championship number stands at two consecutive, from 2009 and 2010, and his teams have consistently brought the Great White North their highest finishes in the country’s history at the event. This year Szoke will be joined by Devon Kenneth D'Argis, Will Duggan and Jonathan English, which means two riders each from British Columbia and Ontario.
Though some specialize, Jordan Szoke just races motorcycles. He, however, does spend most of his time riding on the paved tracks as opposed to jumping straight up ten feet and landing on the edge of a boulder. He is also the number one plate holder in the Canadian National Pro Sportbike and Superbike Championships riding for the Waznie Racing Honda team. In yet another impressive fact, Jordan Szoke is the most decorated Canadian Superbike racer in history now. Szoke won his 2010 championship trophy with a perfect season, seven race wins in seven starts.
Szoke also holds four Canadian National Pro 600 Supersport Championship trophies, and all of those were consecutive between 2006 and 2009, inclusive. He has raced in the United States, in both the AMA Superstock and Superbike series, and took on the Suzuka 8 Hours twice. His racing history is extensive – longer than we have space – and even a casual observer can easily deduce that Szoke is a well-qualified candidate for a seat on any race team (MotoGP in 2012?).
2011 Trial des Nations for Canada
Our main event takes place on 18 September in the hills around Tolmezzo, Italy, with the women’s competition the day previous. Jordan Szoke and his fellow countrymen will have the travel to contend with, and they also have a funding issue. In fact, Canada will not be sending a women’s team this year, unfortunately. The CMA is working on raising the money they will need through many integrated channels, and will gladly accept help from a patriotic citizen or just someone who is a fan of the riders involved: www.canmocycle.ca
Competing for Canada at the 2011 FIM Trial des Nations, Jordan Szoke is guaranteed to add more excitement to an already intriguing and gravity-defying sport.
