The North American 2011 TTXGP season will begin this weekend at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. The fastest electric motorcycles in the country will be heading to California this weekend for the first of five events.
The TTXGP will have two classes this year. The Formula GP, which was the only class run in 2010, and the Formula 75 class, which will limit the amount of power that can be stored to 7,5KwH, as well as the weight of the motorcycles to 440 pounds.
The entry list for the Formula 75 class hasn’t been released yet, so it’s a bit of a mystery as to who will show up for the inaugural race, but a few familiar faces have already signed up for the Formula GP.
Michael Barnes, who won every race last year except for the opening race at Infineon, will be returning for the Lightning Motors team. Barnes will be joined by Michael Hanna, who finished third in the championship last year.
Mission Motors is also looking to be competitive this year. They have a proven rider in Steve Rapp, but we’ll have to wait and see if their motorcycle has the technological prowess to compete in the TTXGP.
Brammo, arguably the most well known consumer electric motorcycle, will also be entering this years TTXGP. The Brammo team will be racing a souped up Empulse during the TTXGP this year.
Moto Electra and Protomoto Racing will also have bikes on the track this year.
The TTXGP series will be a five event series in 2011. There will also be a global finale, which will see the TTXGP from North America, Europe, and Australia join together for one final race to crown the 2011 TTXGP champion.
