Ryan Farquhar was five for five at the Cookstown 100, bringing his career total up to 160 road racing wins. Farquhar eclipsed Joey Dunlop’s record of 156, and is now the most successful rider in Irish road racing history.
"That was one tough day's racing and all the more satisfying as all the top riders were here and I had to dig deep to beat them. I'm absolutely knackered, but delighted. To beat another of Joey's records is amazing, a great honour and not something I ever set out to do,” Farquhar told the Belfast Telegraph.
"I am very proud to have achieved what I have and I have an awful lot of people to thank for getting me to this point in my career. It has been a long hard road. Five wins from five starts at a road race is something special and when you take in my seven from seven at Scarborough recently it has been the perfect start to the season for me."
Farquhar’s five for five weekend adds to an already perfect season. Farquhar started the 2011 campaign by winning all 7 races at the Spring Cup meeting, Oliver’s Mount.
Farquhar has gathered 520 points so far in the 2011 Duke Road Race Rankings, putting him more than 300 points ahead of his closest competitor, Ian Loughner. It’s still early in the road racing season, but Farquhar looks like he already has one hand around the Geoff Duke Trophy, which he has won the last three years.
Farquhar will look to add to his total this weekend at the Tandragee 100.
