Dunlop Tire enjoyed a virtual monopoly in Pro Supercross and motocross in 2010 when Bridgestone, Michelin and Pirelli chose not to offer race support. A large number of elite factory teams were left scrambling when Bridgestone withdrew, and Dunlop stepped up and handled every top team and rider.
For 2011, though, Pirelli is back in the show. The company is sponsoring Muscle Milk and Toyota-supported JGR Yamaha. The riders are said to have adapted quickly to the new rubber. In an unusual deal, Pirelli will run limited race service out of the JGR semi. Riders will be able to buy tires from Pirelli at a good price, but will need to mount them. In return, JGR's amateur support program will rep for Pirelli at the big amateur races.
