Troy Herfoss is 2010 Australian Supersport Champion

Viking Group Australian Superbike logoThe final round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) was held at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains International Raceway during 12 – 14 November. That was, of course, also the final event of the Australian Supersport Championship support series.

With the points race not yet settled in Supersport, the Tasmania round would decide the 2010 champion. Going into the event, all Team Suzuki GSX-R600 mounted Troy Herfoss needed to do in order to put him ahead of his closest competition, Triumph rider Christan Casella, was to finish ahead of him. He did that and more…ASBK rider Troy Herfoss of Team Suzuki

Luckily for Herfoss and his team, he managed a nice qualifying time and started from the front of the grid in each of the two races that weekend. That did help him, but his first race was no ride in the park. He only won race 1 by razor-thin 0.135 seconds over Casella in a competition filled with excitement and close fighting for position. The second race victory was a bit easier – victory by 3.725 seconds over Casella this time – but it had its own drama as Herfoss was nearly overtaken by Irishman Des Darby, who ended up in the mud for his efforts, on the final corner.

This ASBK round was held in conjunction with the Australian V8 Supercars series which meant there was a very large crowd in attendance. Herfoss was elated at tasting victory in front of such a large number of motorsport fans. He was even allowed to run the #1 plate in the second race as series champion.

The 2011 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship series will kick of 2011 next February at the Phillip Island circuit.
